Things need to change

I know I've given excuses why I've slacked on writing here in the past.

I'm tired.

So very tired. I've been on medication since the baby was 6 weeks old. Nothing so far seems to do the trick. When I'm not dealing with one of the kids, all I want to do is lay down and sleep.

Next stop is getting thyroid levels checked.

Please bear with me. I want to get this blog to where it should be, but first I need to get myself there.

Rich Dad's Prophecy by Robert Kiyosaki

I just finished reading this book, which was copyrighted in 2002. It's very interesting to see the things that are happening now forecast in a book written years ago.

I really enjoyed reading this book, learning some of the steps to stay out of financial trouble in the stock market. Of course, we'd have to have money to be IN the stock market, but it's good to know what NOT to do BEFORE you start.

One of the things that is stressed over and over in this book is financial literacy. I think everyone can agree that in these current economic times, it's a very smart idea to know what you are getting into and understanding fully the risks and advantages of an investment before taking the leap.

On a scale of 1-5: 5 for ease of read and information that is extremely useful.

No rest for the rest of us

We live in a four-family apartment building. On the lower level. While it's nice because we get an extra entrance, and don't have to cart all the kids up the stairs, there are some things that are less than ideal.

The apartment building was not built with the idea that maybe you DON'T want to hear everything that happens in the building. And I do mean EVERYTHING! We have a family above us that has a dad that works third shift, and 2 teenagers. The son has been given everything he's ever wanted, and never gets in trouble for anything.

So now that he's a teenager, and there's no one there to supervise, we've had to deal with parties almost every night. I've been woken up at 2:30 to the sounds of God knows what. Tonight was the last straw. Anyone that knows me, knows that while I don't really like confrontation, I value my sleep above everything except my children's health. That will ALWAYS be more important.

So after an hour of music so loud I had to turn up the TV to hear it when I was only 6 feet from it, and not being able to hear myself think, I went upstairs to confront the little punk we have living upstairs from us.

At 18 or 19 years old, I expect a level of maturity. Maybe not a lot, but a little bit of respect would be nice. I was told that we are loud too. Which is true. I have 4 kids, ages 10 to 3 months. I can't really tell the 3 month old that she has to stop crying so the upstairs jerks don't have a bird.

So, I'll be drafting a letter to send to our property owners. It states in our lease that noise should be at a minimum to show courtesy to the other tenants. So if I can't do anything because no one in that apartment cares, then the landlord can. If they don't...well I don't see them having a choice since it's in our lease.

We'll see what happens.

2008 Books Read...late post

I try to read as much as possible. 2008 was a great year for me, even though I tapered off towards the end of the year because of having the baby in October. There were days I couldn't get a break to pee, much less try to get reading time in.

Here's my list for 2008:

Total pages read for 2008 were: 9540

Unfortunately in my cataloging what I read, I missed a few. So those don't get counted, and hopefully I don't mess up this year.

Also this year I will be reviewing some of the books as they are read. I'm always looking for new reads, and take alot of suggestions from what I've heard sound promising.

Who are your favorite authors, or books?

Things at the ole' homestead

So, I mentioned that there will be new things brewing here at the homestead. I went ahead and bought my domain yesterday. Now it's trying to figure out how to get it to do what I want it to. I have limited technical skills, so this blog will stay here for the time being while I work out all the quirks and kinks of the new site.

Eventually, this blog will be found at onewritingmomma.com. But for now, I'll still be plodding along here.

Other fronts, Miss Abigail is teething at 3 months, trying to talk (which is HILARIOUS!), and trying her hand at rolling over. Now if she could only get her head and legs to work together, she'd be well on her way to getting moving!

And, like everyone else I seem to run into lately, we are feeling the pinch of the economy. The Man's job is barely existing, finding other work is a joke in this part of town, and taxes can't come fast enough. Little things like, oh, RENT and bills are taking over. On top of that, we REALLY need another car. Preferably one that fits us all in it. That's originally what taxes were going to be used for, well that and getting the baby her crib. Rent seems to be taking precedence over the vehicle. Unfortunately, that means carting people around and not being able to pick kids and the Man up when the really need it. Conflicting schedules are kicking my ass. That and the fact that at three months, Abby still refuses to enjoy a car ride.

From the land of screaming babies!

For the last 3 days or so I've had a teething 3 month old.

Yes, you read that right. Three months, and she's already got one tooth coming through, and a few more that you can tell are on the verge of breaking skin.

Needless to say, she's been MORE than inconsolable. Thursday she slept for a total of an hour all day, and screamed whenever she wasn't sleeping or eating. Everyone in the house was thrilled when she FINALLY fell asleep for the night. And proceeded to sleep for 11 hours.

On other fronts, I'm going to try to control the venting about the newborn, however, one of the reasons I started this blog was to get things off my chest, and she is the one commanding all the attention in our house lately.

I have actually been able to keep up on the emails, only behind on today's and yesterday's.

My goal is to write here every other day. While I realize this is a challenge with 4 kids under foot, I think if I can get things done once they are sleeping, things should work the way I want.

The man starts his new job on Tuesday, selling for AT&T. We'll see how that works.

A new year and a new beginning

I hate the word resolutions. Every time I've used it, I've never been able to follow through.

This year I'm making GOALS.

A goal to post here at least once a week. I've also got tons of ideas on how to really get my writing moving again, now that the baby is finally calming down a bit.

A goal to check my email for an hour a night, while the Man is playing WOW. Normally I get stuck doing dishes or just veggin out watching the new cuz by that time I'm so tired. Well, I've gone through over 400 emails in the last 3 days, trying to get caught up on writing groups I'm in, and basically, trying to not feel so far behind.

A goal to teach my older kids more responsibility. This is a hard one for me, as I'm a bit controlling and want things done MY way. Well, I realize that by not having them do things for themselves, it's not helping them be better people, just teaching them how to get away with being lazy.

More goals to come, but I wanted to get these down and out int oe cyber world before one of the kids needed me again.

Happy New Year everyone!! What are some of your goals for the year?
